* Where being a changemaker becomes possible *
What is UWC?
UWC, short for 'United World Colleges', is a global education movement that aims to unite people from different nations, cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds as it believes that education "can bring together young people [UWC students are selected domestically through national committees] from all backgrounds on the basis of their shared humanity, to engage with the possibility of social change through courageous action, personal example and selfless leadership." Hence, UWC offers need-based financial aid to everyone accepted (approxamitly 70% of all UWC students receive either a full or partial scholarship, myself included). Currently there are 18 UWCs all over the world, teaching the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in accordance with their ethos of emphasizing the importance of experiential learning, community service and outdoor activities.
